1. How do I know if my child should see a speech-language pathologist?

If you have any concerns about your child’s speech or language development, it would be advisable to speak with a speech-language pathologist to determine if an assessment would be appropriate.  I've also created this presentation to help families pinpoint some of their concerns.  This presentation was developed using Prezi - please click on the right arrow button to advance through the presentation at your own pace.

2. How do I make an appointment?

Parents or legal guardians can make an appointment by contacting me directly.  Please note that some insurance companies require a referral from a doctor in order to qualify for reimbursement.  It is advised that you contact your insurance company directly to verify this beforehand.

3.  What can I expect from the first session?

The first session is often reserved for sharing information.  Families will be asked questions pertaining to their child’s medical and developmental history, and have an opportunity to discuss their concerns.  Parents are also encouraged to bring along any relevant reports about their child (e.g., hearing tests, developmental assessments, educational-psychology reports).  The speech-language pathologist will discuss the nature of the suggested service(s) in detail in order to obtain informed consent from the family.

4.  Where are services provided?

Services are usually provided in-person, however virtual sessions may be arranged for some clients. I’m excited to be working in a new clinic space on Topsail Road in Paradise!

5.  What are the costs?  Are these services covered by my insurance plan?

Fees vary, depending on the nature and duration of services.  Please contact me to obtain more specific information about rates.  Most extended health plans provide some coverage for speech-language pathology services.  Clients are encouraged to contact their insurance providers beforehand to verify coverage and requirements (e.g., a doctor’s referral).
